Insta-Thursday: birthday planning & touches of christmas

It's Thursday! & Instagram sharing time...

Remembering back to this time last year, I was 9 months pregnant, awaiting our baby girl to arrive any day (my official due date being: December 28th). My Husband and I both were convinced that she would arrive early or may even be a Christmas baby... but as she would surprise us all, I went almost 2 weeks over due and our little miss didn't make her debut until January 5th! Little did I know that a year later, it would be so stressful to not only plan and organize Christmas Eve dinner, buy and wrap presents, decorate the house for the Holidays, chase after a very mobile 11 month old and throw organizing a birthday party into the mix too! Last year all I had to do was sit around and wait for our little one to arrive, this year, it's a whole new ballgame. I have gotten a little bit of a start on the birthday festivities and the invitations are done and now finally sent out! Being that Maddie is our little winter baby, it seemed only fitting to throw a Winter ONEderland party, but with a princess/ storybook theme mixed in! I am so excited to show you all of my DIY projects for the party too as I go along...

& all of it is for this little princess...

The Christmas decorating in our home is just about complete, as it took me long than expected this year with a little one trying to get into EVERYTHING that was shiny & pretty

Before even jumping into decorating, I love curling up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and the Holiday editions of Ballard Designs & Pottery Barn magazines to gather some Christmas decor inspiration

So here is a little peek of our living room...

& the tree... (which is still in the process of being added to)

One of my favorite projects this season was to make these mason jar snow globes
(which I have to add, are ALL over our house in various spaces)

& my DIY chalkboard in the kitchen...

& of course our tree wouldn't be complete without handmade paper ornaments

One of my biggest joys was getting to decorate my daughter's room...
The tree was actually mine as a child which I got to decorate every year.
I am now proud to pass it onto her and continue the tradition

All of these little touches of Christmas make me happy :)

DIY Mason Jar Ornaments

Now that I am back in the swing of things & caught up on all of my decorating (yes, a little behind.. but it is finally done) It's time for a little DIY ornament project!

This year, I wanted to keep with a very neutral and rustic theme for my Christmas decor, all while not spending a fortune on decor items. As we all know, ornaments can get expensive at $4 and up each, so I set out to use what I had on hand at home. Being that we have an 11 month old, baby food jars are constantly stocked up in our pantry. Instead of throwing all of those jars away every time they are used, I decided to re-purpose them into ornaments. Adorable little mason jar snow globe ornaments!

Here is what you will need:
- baby food jar(s)
- hot glue gun
-hot glue sticks
- silver metallic spray paint/
or craft paint
- small bottle brush trees
- twine rope
- hammer
-screw or nail
- flake snow

Start out by washing the jars well and removing the labels

Then gather your bottle brush trees. I found a huge pack, all assorted sizes at Lowes for only $12!

Hot glue the bottom of your tree to the bottom of the jar

Take your hammer and a screw or a nail and punch two holes in the top of your lid,
then spray paint with silver metallic paint

Once the lids are dry, take your twine and slip each end through the holes
and tie a knot on the bottom side of the lid

Sprinkle some flake snow on the inside of your jar, as little or as much as you like,
then attach the lid & you are done!

Happy Holidays 2012!

Many of you may have been wondering where I have been... well, between laying in bed sick for a week, decorating the house for Christmas, enjoying holiday festivities and planning our Daughter's first birthday party things have been hectic around the Ciani household! But I am BACK! The weekend after Thanksgiving we had our family photos taken by an amazing photographer in old town Temecula. Let me tell you, as a photographer myself, I love being behind the camera but don't so much enjoy when it is time to get in front of the camera & because of this reason we only have maybe all of two pictures as a family since Madisyn has been born. I know, I know that is horrible.. So I finally bit the bullet and had them done. Maddie Grace was not so happy to begin with, but slowly warmed up to the idea of having someone new other than 'Mommy' take her pictures & although my Husband isn't too fond of smiling, they turned out amazing!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season!

End Table Re-do

Remember this end table???
((My $15 find from Craigslist))

Well, it now is this...

My intention was to sell it, but in the process my Husband fell in love... and let's just say my Husband is not one to have much an opinion on our home decor. He just leaves that to me. After showing him the piece all finished he said to me "you're NOT selling that, RIGHT??" & who am I to turn his desires down ;)

So this little distressed beauty now has found a place in our home,
right in between our sofa and winged armchair

Do you like the color?? Well, check back soon for a coffee table re-do to match!
(& this one I can promise will be up for adoption!)
